St. Thomas Basketball Tournament 2012
Jacquie’s, Laurie’s and Jim’s team had a very successful tournament after driving through a snow storm to get there. The team won 2 out of 3 of their games with everyone contributing in scoring baskets, moving the ball down the court, passing and guarding. LaSalle won over Brampton 18 – 4; LaSalle lost to Kitchener by a foul shot with the score ending at 12 to 13. LaSalle won their 3rd game over Stratford 24 to 6. We had to implement our good sportsmanship rules to give the opposing teams a chance to score baskets. This action was noticed by the London organization who made a point of commending us for it. He could not thank us enough for showing such great sportsmanship and telling us how appreciated it. These comments really made our day and made us feel proud. The team was served pizza for lunch and at the end of the day were given T-shirts and RCMP pins. A great day was had by all. Go Spirit!!Our recreational athletes went to Guelph for the first time and boy did they make us proud. This was also my first time coaching at a tournament. They moved the ball around and made sure that all athletes were able to get baskets. All the athletes put in a great effort up and down the court and showed great team work. I expect that the future will see this teams attending more tournaments. We have a tournament in London at the end of March and expect that they will do very well. I am very proud of all you and keep up the good work.

Guelph tournament ( January 29/12)
The Guelph tournament was the first of our season and proved to be an eye opener for our newly revised "Sherri" team. We had worked hard in practice and all of that running did pay off for us. We did our best overall and coaches were able to see that with lots of hard work and confidence we could come back evern stronger next time. We played Brampton and Stratford twice - we ended up losing two games and winning our last.Just to mention some individual stats for each player: Matt excelled with rebounds. - 12 to be exact. He also scored 50% in free throw shots. Mitch seems to have found his spot on our team as he is now stealing and rebounding throughout this tournament. Chris has setlled down and played ball this year. He assists, rebounds, steals and shoots free throws. Jasmyn has really come out of her shell and she is shooting and and assiting shots. Obviously Jazz likes to run down the court and she can control the ball...good going Jazzy! Jordan - Well the award goes to Jordan for "not on my court", Jordan was famous for pushing the other team out of bounds... Josh - The award for Most Valuable player has to go to Josh - He had 50 % of his shots, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals. Once he found his groove Josh was on fire and he all over the court, shooting defending and blocking. Dan is known for his defensive tactics - he can steal and he can defend Dan proved himself time and again all three games. Ron was with Matt under the basket this tournament and we needed him there for the rebounds. He assisted and he stole the ball. He was all over and on the court everywhere. Kyle C Well smiley is also our "under the basket guy" giving us so many rebounds we could not keep up to him. Kyle G is needed time and again to "get in the other teams face" He knows how to do that without causing any problem. He thinks he is getting mad at himself for how he is playing...but let me tell you...the other team feels the intimidation. Rene has definitely shown he is where he belongs and he has contributed 100%. We are so happy to have him on our team and he is very good defensively. Ray works hard always with the team but we just couldnt make it happen for the win. We came in 3rd despite Ray blocking, rebounding, scoring baskets and free throws...better luck at the next one.
Remember Basketball is a team sport and we need our whole team to succeed.....so stand proud and get ready...cause watch out St. Thomas here we come...
